Not sure how anyone could write a bad review for this place...Its great! The buffet was awesome! The cream puffs were awesome as well!
I have lived in Columbus for over 10 years and never had eatin at Schmidts until Saturday April 5th 2008, now I understand why, I was very disappointed with the food, highly over priced buffet and very poor service, I don't beleive I will ever patronize the establishment again
We were disappointed to find out that the food served at Schmidt's is not made on-site. A "commissary" prepares the sausages and even the sides (german potato salad, roasted red cabbage, sauerkraut, etc.) off-site. It's always a disapointing to us when a "local legend" doesn't prepare their own food anymore.
The restaurant itself was cozy enough - lined with bricks, cool old photos of the restaurant's history and decor created from items saved from the original sausage haus. Our waiter was friendly and the food was served quickly.
If you're in Columbus and feel like German fare, Schmidt's is likely your best bet, but a disappointment to us. We seek out restaurants that offer original recipes created on-site in family-owned joints.
