If you're approaching your "golden years," you'll recall that this hideaway in suburban Oregon was once Johnny Luda's Fairlane restaurant with the best deep fried chicken in the world.
Johnny's is long-gone, but the Empire carries on the tradition of good food, and lots of it, at reasonable prices.
The decor is no great shakes, but it's comfortable. There are two dining rooms - a more informal one up front and a much larger space in the back. The bar is upfront near the entrance. The waitstaff is extremely friendly and efficient and experienced. You won't sit for hours waiting for your lunch or dinner. Almost immediately before you even open the menu, they bring a steeping hot pot of tea with the traditional Chinese cups.
Virtually everything on the menu is worth trying. Their ABC (Almond Boneless Chicken) is a real favorite, but no matter what you choose, you won't be disappointed.
Some say that their sweet-sour soup is the best ever. The egg drop is equally good, and their egg rolls are fantastic.
The Empire does a land-office business - especially with carry-out. So if you can't spare the time to dine in, call ahead and get this great Chinese fare to go.
My favorite Chinese restaurant, very fresh vegetables (I get the Buddist Delite and Vegetable lo mein) My Husband son and I usually get take out for convenience which is only about 10 minutes to pick up. Husband gets the Beef and Broccoli all the time and loves it. If you are in town you should try it :)
Pretty good place all around. Good fried rice and General Tsao's dishes. Good prices and service. \Not quite as tasty as Jing Chuan, or else I'd give it 5-stars.
