BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, YOU FLY INTO TOLEDO AIRPORT PRIVATE PLANE AND YOU CAN'T FIND FIFI'S OPEN ON A SUNDAY.
NOR DOES THE WEBSITE HAVE THE DAY AND TIMES OF SERVICE SO YOU HAVE TO BACK TRACK TO CHICAGO FOR DINNER.
NOT IMPRESSED. I NEED MY NOURISHMENT AT ANY COST.
She's back! And just in time. Fifi's Reprise is all that it used to be - and more.
After 20-some years, Fifi called it quits, and her wonderful restaurant became Patrick's. That venture was shorter than an Ethel Merman marriage. Seven weeks, and Patrick's was history. That scenario led to the new Fifi's Reprise (a repeated performance). Curtain up!
The interior has taken a dramatic turn - refreshed and renewed. It's still the cozy, intimate, secluded place, but updated with an ultra sophistication that echos Fifi's own style. The piano is back in the bar, and there's easy listening live music again. The bar has been redesigned, and perhaps it's even better than before. The modest little portrait of the lady herself is back but no longer over the bar. It occupies a place of prominence in the dining room, and it certainly brings back memories.
The dining room still features crisp white linens, but now there's a high tech fireplace â flames through glass. The booths are gone, and it's now all tables. And a glass wall that virtually disappears now separates the bar from the dining area.
The food? Classic Fifi's. A nice choice of appetizers and entrees, but not overkill. Just enough items for variety without an overload on the kitchen. The fish â done to perfection. The steaks â simply the best available. And, of course, the house salad is back with the signature champagne dressing.
But the presentation is what makes every item so unique. Food is not simply slapped on a plate and served. It's artfully prepared and arranged. People "eat with their eyes," and every dish that emerges from the kitchen is an optic feast.
If ever there was "white glove" service in Toledo, it's here. The waiters are attentive to a fault, and you can be sure that you will never sit with empty dishes in front of you ... or wait forever for a water refill.
Price: It's not cheap by any means, but it affirms the old adage that "you get what you pay for." The prices are by no means outrageous, and they are under even lesser restaurants in bigger markets. The one faux pax is the location. While it's right on Airport Highway, it is not accessible directly from the road, and that has always been a deterrent to some. Don't let it be. Even if you had to go into overdrive with your GPS, Fifi's is well-worthing seeking out. Don't miss this Toledo treasure that's back - and hopefully this time for good.
Sinfully good: My husband and I had such a wonderful time there; wonderful food, great atmosphere, Fifi herself checked on us, all in all I can't say anything bad about it. The food was devine, some say it's to expensive, but for the quality you don't really pay enough. I've never had better when dining out. Everything tasted good from the first bite to the sinfully tastey last bite of dessert. Plus the staff is so friendly and really helped make the night even more enjoyable.
Will I go back? In a heart beat. I have recommended this resturant to all my friends, coworkers, and strangers.
