One of Toledo's best kept secrets. Nothing better than a roast beef sub from the Big Apple and a nice cold beer to wash it down with.

What a find ! We started out in the Old West End on a Saturday afternoon looking for something different. Our hope was to find a good sub shop/deli and were willing to settle for Quizno's (not bad but pretty run of the mill!) Now I know there are good locally owned places out there but I swear I have NEVER seen a city SO obsessed with the corporate food chain. We actually drove around for 45 minutes, passing more McD's, Subways, B.K.s, Quizno's, Blimpies etc...etc...EVERYTHING downtown was closed except for the clubs and we ended up on the East Side. Headed out Woodville we decided 10 minutes and we'd turn around and find a Subway (The most bland, over-priced subs on the planet!) And not too far down we came across the Big Apple Deli...small, unassuming and absolutely worth the trip! They have a wide variety of subs, sandwiches, salads all prepared on site, most while you wait. I hate that we didn't ask for a "to-go" menu because I can't remember the name of the sandwich I got. It was one of their specials with pastrami, ham, cheese and all the fixings. It was delicious and HUGE. I ordered the LG. and it could easily have been 2 meals. And at about 6 bucks no comparison to any of the chains The girls behind the counter were as friendly as can be, and the place was very clean and inviting. There are a couple of small tables for dining in as well as an assortment of things to go with your meal like chips and desserts. They apparently do catering also. We have only been in Toledo several years which is why we hadn't heard of them even though they have been in business for 25 years! I would give them 5 Stars for all these reasons. It's not Mancy's or a Cousino's but for the quality and quanity they can't be beat. We are looking forward to our next visit... SOON !!
