The preservation of this historic lighthouse has been an uphill battle, having undergone numerous renovations to the tower and keepers dwelling. Opening in 1945, the lighthouse marine museum was the first of its kind in the country. Here visitors can view historic pictures of the lighthouse, read logs of vessels guided, and even walk through the area where runaway slaves sought safety.
