This has to be the slowest post office in the USA. There are always long lines. They need to get more help or find a way for supervisors to fill in when it gets busy.
The Cleveland Heights Severance post office, (for a private business owner like myself, who must 'mail out customer merchandise daily')it is the perfect example of what "hell" must be like!!! First you enter the extremely 'disorganized' parking lot and hunt for a parking spot in the small area, then you enter and see the unbelievably loooooooooooooong lines. Since the self-service machines does not sell single stamps, then God pity you if stamps happen to be all you need! Pack yourself a lunch and bring a parade chair if you suspect that you might not be able to conduct your business using the self-service machine! One good thing about the Severance PO is that by the time you are 'released' from 'The post office holding center,' you are familiar with everyone who 'served time' in line with you, and you leave with a couple of new friends each time that you visit. I can acredit about 1/8 of my newly acquired business customers to the 'bordom chit-chat' that evolved in the 'long time-consuming lines' of the Severance post office, and that's no joke!
I should have known I was in trouble back four years ago when I first moved to Cleveland Heights, and I was entering the PO for the first time. I heard an elderly woman who was on the way out say, "Gee things certainly have changed quite a bit out here - who's president now? Did the handsome young Irish senator from Masachusettes ever make it into office?"
-----Okay, I'm obviously incorporating a bit of 'humor' here to 'color in' my story, but seriously, the Severance branch post office could stand for some vast improvement indeed!
Good in some ways...: The post office is great if you have stamped mail that you need to deposit using the drive thru lane with the post office boxes. However, if you need to go into the post office to do business, it is more often than not, a bit of a nightmare. The parking lot is poorly designed and difficult to exit. The stamp machines do not sell individual stamps which is a problem if you just want to purchase a few to take care of an immediate mailing. The lines are often very long with friendly, but slow customer service. The clerks are very friendly and chatty which is great but it tends to slow things down a bit. With a little bit of tweaking, it could be a great post office that is effective and efficient in terms of customer service.
