We just tried this place yesterday because we wanted to try something new and we heard good things. Well everyone was right- this place was great! I was little hesitant because I have never had Indian food. I had the Tandoori Chicken and my husband had the Raj Majah special. The chicken was great -- and the lamb curry was very good too. The waiters were very attentive and never left us with an emply glass. I also reccommend the mango ice cream. Will defintely be back!!!
I enjoy this restaurant immensely...the waiters have gotten to know me and what my order is, so when I call (about 2 a week), they know exactly what I am looking for. My tastebuds makes me desire the Chicken Mah Kani, with extra rice and Naan bread...and it will last me for about 3 meals or more. I have tried figuring out the recipe for myself to make, I'm still working on it. I am very dissappointed however that they seemed to have left the states and the restaurant hasn't been open for about 2 + months now. I'm hoping they do come back...the note said in May...but May is half over and still no Mah Kani (butter chicken). I agree the 'atmosphere' could look nicer, but I'll take the better tasting food over the prettiness of a table...as these days you do need to keep the overhead down. I would highly suggest this restaurant.
I went to Raj Mahal twice in the last week, once for dinner, once for lunch buffet. The place looks like a dump but the food is not bad.
After being spoiled by eating for years regularly in the finest Indian restaurants in Chicago, I still find Raj Mahal ok. The dinner was good, the buffet could have been a little better for $10.
I don't know how Raj was a year ago, but I'll go there again.
