I grew up on Josie's Pizza. Josie's started out if I remember at the Penn Grill. After the new building was erected on Lundy, Josie moved there. I can remember going to the movie theater down town and it was a MUST to walk the 1/2 block to Josie's for a small pizza. A pizza that cost .75 cents. Almost every Friday night, if you weren't at a High School game, be it basketball or football where you could get Josie's pizza by the slice, we were ordering our pizza for home delivery. It always came fresh and hot because the delivery truck had a propane heater oven in the bed. Josie's is an ICONIC Staple to the small town of Salem. I don't live anywhere near Salem now and I do miss Josie's. Josie's wasn't just for pizza though. The Hot Ham & Cheese sandwich or the Fried Chicken with Jo-Jo's was also a great deal. When Salem lost Josie, we lost a good friend. Thank God for the Family keeping up with tradition.

This message is VERY LONG OVERDUE and is targeted to all those who spew negativity about Josie's Pizza: Sounds like to me you are all Pizza Preps! You have bought into the Capitalistic Fatcat mentality of higher priced pizza! Your tastebuds are proof and testify against you! "Oh, I don't like Josie's b/c it's too greasy." No doubt, you who make such biased and inflammatory statements eat at the famous Preppy Chain Pizza Places. Well, seeing is how I've been in the pizza business myself, coupled with loyally eating Josie's Pizza since I was a wee infant, I can personally attest with scientific fact that these Pizza Prep Chains are actually considerably greasier! Oh yeah, that's right baby...paying higher prices for your pizza which keeps the surgical society in business by having to clean out your arteries with angioplasty!!!
No doubt those who eat at the aforementioned Pizza Prep Chains grew up in well to do families who had a father who worked at GM-Lordstown and a mother who worked as some overpaid status-quo teacher in the public school system, and who grew up driving their parents GM newly bought $40,000+ designer fad vehicle! Those of us who grew up in a more financially humble family appreciate and sincerely thank the Almighty for Josie's pizza that has a miraculous taste, modest pizza prices for Joe the Plumber and his family, and local ownership who connect with and personally care about their patrons.
Yeah, that's right, those of us who had a father who knew what it meant to work...a father who would work till his hands bled changing oil in YOUR parents newly bought GM $40,000+ designer fad vehicle; mowing YOUR parents preppy yard in the suburbs; while having a mother who would clean that same $250,000+ house just so your family could have the poised appearance of keeping up with the Jone's!!! These hard working Joe the Plumber Families are those of us who keep Josie’s Pizza faithfully in business; Lord willing, for many generations to come!
Furthermore, do you know that when Josie's Pizza (literally a mom and pop business now owned and operated by their son and daughter) opened in 1970 that a 12" cheese pizza was only a $1.35 and that 38 years later they have victoriously fought hard against the attacks of corporate greed and inflation by keeping their 12" cheese pizza a still modest cost of only $5.50? How many of those Pizza Prep Chains can make an equal claim? Let them try and watch the lies spew forth!
In summary: Josie's Pizza for the humble Joe the Plumber Families and Pizza Prep Chains for the wealthy, or better yet: Josie's for Jesus and Pizza Prep Chains for Pharisees. If Jesus had his earthly ministry today, He would have had the Last Supper at Josie’s Pizza Shop!!! No doubt those of you who spread vicious lies about Josie's Pizza are the same people who voted for Obama!!! This is more than about pizza my foe, this is a spiritual matter! ALL HAIL JOSIE’S!!!
