It sits in a little run down dumpy town, maybe in the late 1980's it was a destination restaurant, in the 1990's it was more of a political backdrop ... I'm sad to report that in 2009 it has gone way down hill.... Service is SLOW and staff does not know the menu, PRICE is HIGH, food is mediocre at best, my risotto was like paste and cold, plate presentation is awful and amateur, with flowers used as garnish on every plate! ... Creme brulee was curdled and served with cheap spray whipped cream and raspberry sauce? .... Nothing stands out on the menu and they do not have a signature dish ...you would be better off trying Mezzaluna or the Hart Mansion in Minerva, Ohio ... even Grinders would be better food than Spread Eagle Tavern! ... Don't fool yourself into believing it's a good meal because of price, it's not Ken Stewarts, you don't get what you pay for here.. STAY AWAY!
My wife and I have dined at this restaurant many times. We have experienced excellent service and fine food each and every time. We have also stayed overnight several times. We once stayed overnight along with 2 other couples, my wife's sisters and their husbands, and all had a wonderful time. Hanoverton in autumn is especially beautiful, an evening here would be a memorable experience. We are a Military family (me as well as 3 of our children) and Mr. Johnson offered deep discounts on overnight accommodations. I highly recommend this restaurant and am sure it will become one of your favorites.
Really good food and ambiance: The first time I went here was for a company luncheon. The service was great and the food was great as well.
This place is set in a very historic town. Most (if not all) the buildings in this town are as they were (for the most part) back in the late 1800s.
I plan on going back, maybe with my parents or a select group of friends.
