User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsi've been eating at el carlos since I was a kid, even worked there for a couple summers. Love the food, casual atmosphere. I know everything is cooked fresh every day (from working in the kitchen) salsa is made from fresh veggies, not from a can.
its still the same family, one of the sons and his wife and kids work it now. 30+ years where they're at now.-

This place is horrible. on a messed up to go order, the owner himself was a jerk. He accused my husband of dropping food in parking lot or lying and when my husband said we wont eat here again, he took food from my husband and shoved him out the door. He yelled at me on the phone, even after I explained that we dont know what happened to the food. JERK

The drinks are good, but it's hard to make a bad margarita. The food itself is not completely bad, but I wouldn't really call it anywhere near authentic Mexican food. The food overall is pretty bland. It doesn't have any of the flavor of what you would normally expect from food from that region of the world. In fact, I would go as far to say that Taco Bell adds more seasoning and flavor to their meat.
To be a little more specific, the chili con queso is pretty much just melted velveeta. There are no peppers in it at all. The salsa tastes pretty much just like pureed tomatoes. I don't think that they even know what cilantro is.
All in all, I would consider it to be Mexican Food for people that don't enjoy spices in their food.

Ive been taking my family here for many years and have always had nothing but a pleasant friendly experience with the owner, although I do believe this was one night I would have rather kept my family at home also. The last thing I want is my grandchildren witnessing drunk customers starting a fight like this in a nice family environment, just to get some free food or whatever they're intentions may have been. Its good to know I wont have to worry about these particular offenders ruining my dining experience at this particular restaurant again. We can comfortably say, we will be back.
