Well, my wife and I ate there just last night. Very good food and an incredible value! I trusted the good reviews and ignored the single poor review that is posted here. I'm glad we tried it.
I had the lasagna and it was deliciously huge. It spread across the whole plate and was about 3 inches tall and 4 inches wide (guessing - I didn't measure it). The sauce is mild (in a good way) with a little sweetness. I like all sorts of sauces but my wife is picky about bitter sauces.
I added the salad bar that has iceberg lettuce and a few traditional salad bar toppings. They also had what looked to be homemade pickles (very tasty), macaroni salad, cole slaw, and very good croutons.
My wife ordered the veal Parmesan with spaghetti. It was huge! She enjoyed the same sauce, like on my lasagna, on the veal patty and the noodles. The cheese that topped the veal and the lasagna is broiled until it is a little more than golden brown.
The unlimited bread they serve is very hearty and has good flavor. It's a good Italian loaf. It would be a tad nicer if the bread was warmed - just a small suggestion.
We were seated right away and only waited about 8 minutes to get our food - 10 minutes tops. The waitress was very nice and attentive.
As we were leaving, we saw a small pizza being brought out and it looked good, so we'll try that next time we go. And we are sure to go again. It's about an hour drive from us but there's a decent amount of shopping just down the road in Ontario.
The atmosphere is like a plain old diner. Booths and tables available. Restrooms are what you would expect at a well trafficked diner - the old style rolling cloth towel unit, it was broken in the men's room. I heard someone complain about the radio station and the waitress said it was overpowered by the radio station that is down the road a bit - they can't get any other stations - time for an XM satellite subscription.
My wife and I were only able to get halfway through our entrees. We took the rest home. I, and my wife, highly recommend Papa's Gondola.
My wife and I ate there last weekend and loved it. The service was excellent and our meals were even better. Papa's has been a fixture in Ontario years.
Try the Lasagna.
The only time my wife and I have ever not eaten our food and got up and left the building was here. If you like chef boy ar dee, this is the place for you. My dog would turn his nose up at this slop.
