I'm about 98 percent certain that Akash is owned by the same folks who run Ambar in Clifton and Baba in Oakley. If you like those restaurants, you will like Akash. I like all three.
Food is consistently tasty, albeit not spectacular, and the nine-dollar lunch buffet is a great value for a downtown restaurant. Dinner prices are in line with the sister restaurants and with other Indian restaurants in town.
Ambience is agreeable, and servers are efficient and pleasant, contrary to some of the comments below.
Yes, the fellow who stands behind the counter at lunchtime--not sure whether he is an owner or just a manager--isn't the friendliest guy in the world, but he is pretty innocuous. (It would be helpful if Anmol, in the review below, would explain the "very obnoxious behavior" this man engaged in.)
(I also dispute Anmol's comment about being "forced" to pay a 15 percent tip. I have been there many times at lunch, in groups as large as eight people, and at least once in the evening, and have never had a service charge included in my bill.)
Very obnoxious behavior from the owner. This happens to be the only Indian restaurant in Downtown Cincinnati. Hence, the owner thinks he can get away with anything. Food is average , price is too high for the quality of food.
To run insult to the injury, I found that you are forced to pay a 15% tip ( comes as part of the bill ) after experiecning pathetic service.
Stay away unless if you have no other option.
Average Akash: Average North Indian food. All you can eat lunch buffet offers a wide variety of food, but lacks in terms of service and ambiance. If you have a business meeting in the afternoon, don't go to Akash! You end up smelling like the food you eat when you leave.
