Bought "lifetime" warranty memory from them in 2002. Memory is now bad, needs replaced. Call up the Zoo where I was sold this "lifetime" warranty. Informed they will only replace it for 2 years after date of sale, and that I would have to contact the manufacturer to get it replaced. Except any identifying stickers on this memory are gone except for the Computer Zoo sticker. After calling them back to find out how to get it replaced when there's no stickers to identify who even assembled the chip and would therefore be honoring the lifetime warranty.....they give me who they bought it from but not enough information to have these people help me. During this time they also told me to bring my machine in and they'd install a new stick (for a price of course), and that my memory is ONLY $25 bucks and I could save myself a lot of hassle to just buy a new one. While technically true that it would cost me more to RMA it than buy a new one, this is because they won't honor the lifetime warranty it was sold with. They won't give me the information I need to actually get it replaced by the responsible parties (since they claim they are not responsible for it after two years). I've bought a few thousand dollars worth of items from them in the past, and I hope that none of them fail because apparently any warranty they tell you the item has. You will never be able to get it honored. Local shops are supposed to be convenient and helpful to make up for their high prices, but my experience has shown that they may be initially convenient (walk out with item in hand that day). In the long term, the online shops such as Newegg offer superior replacement service, less hassles getting the information you need to handle RMAs to the manufacturer. Newegg will look this up, even contact them for you if there's some confusion. Computer Zoo will try to sell you yet another product at the inflated price while they hinder your ability to replace the item. They are the keepers of the information and they use to it to try to sell more products. Bravo Computer Zoo, maybe your fourth owner will be able to sort you out.
I bought one of their systems and when I took it back for a repair, it took them 10 days to give me an answer. No one bothered to call me and I didn't get an answer until I called them. No one in that store can explain why or didn't even bother to give me some reason. They acted like they were doing me a favor by taking in my computer (mind I bought their system for $2k). I took my broken pc to A+ certified instead, got an answer within one hour and it was fixed in less than 5 days.
I've used Computer Zoo for years. They know what they're doing. They have good prices and beat the pants off of Best Buy and CompUsa service. It's always good to be able to discuss something face to face with someone working at a shop that isn't owned by some conglomerate a thousand miles away.
