Woodland Cemetery has changed over the last 2 years. The cemetery has had a change of hands. You can notice the differnce by driving through out the cemetery. Also, stopping by the office does not turn in to a hassell. The new caretakers really make a difficult time a lot easier. They take their time and solve the most difficult requests. It is about time the trustees placed a well deserving couple to this position.
compassion for a young mother: my greatgrandaughter was buried in Woodlawn a month ago today. She was only six months old and passed away from a tragic accident. My granddaughter visits very frequently and the family brings little token such as balloons and flowers. Now tell me why the caretaker of this cemetary removed most everything this baby had on her grave saying that it looked trashy. Since when is a child not allowed to have balloons on her grave. This was a devestation to my granddaughter as this is her way of coping with the babies death. Why did this caretaker have such a bad attitude towards her after all im sure that she gets her home free for taking care of matters there. People have to deal with their grief and i stongly advise someone should check into this matter because these people are in the wrong type of work. Im glad i live in the north where our cemeteries have people running them with compassion.
poor management and lies: I read in the paper the remarks of the secretary in the debate of woodland cementary. she lied!!! when my father was buried in woodland no -one told us or gave us info about grave decorations. no rules, no nothing! now after 6 years these rules come up from nowhere. i can deal with rules but you need to know upfront before you spend your hard earned money on mementos that wind up broke or missing. she never once informed the families on removal of any items. if she had ,i really don't think their trash pile would notbe that full. my dad worked at woodland years ago and you would see them sweep the grass from the headstones but not anymore. in my opinon this is grave robbing and should stop. i'm sure this secretary and the overseer makes a nice salary plus room & board and you never see them in the cementary. heaven forbid they'd pick up a broom and sweep a headstone.what happened to earning your keep! rating the cementary well, maybe a 4. rating the management ,i'll give a 0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. now is the time for a change .someone who cares about our loved ones and not the all mighty dollar.these people have no buisness running any buisness. and by the way the so called trash they discarded will be posted on the net soon. i took the liberty of taking pictures and to me and other people ,a cross of GOD is not trash! Ironton does'nt need this black eye.it's a nice town to live in. linda williams portsmouth, ohio
