I have only been once for the happy hour sushi that starts at 8:30pm m-th. I am from the east coast (and no this is not the coast we are in the mid-west!) and this is decent "sushi" for the area. I would not recommend this place for your first time. Sushi is not like chinese food--the cheaper (usually) the better. For your first time, or any time, you want high quality fish. As for the other dishes, once again not very impressed. Just don't fall for the hype--I seriously question these people who rave about it. If you have never eaten sushi and TJS is all that you have to base your opinion on then I understand--but for those that have travelled and say it is the best ever...really?!!?
For the atmosphere, its a fun place, the food on the otherhand... is mediocre at best. The sushi/sashimi was below par. If I were taking out friends who don't eat raw fish and wanted Japanese, this would be the place to visit... for Sushi/sashimi, Japan West is a better choice. I'm one of those that order steaks (instead of burgers) at steakhouses (non-japanese variety), seafood (instead of steak) at seafood restaurants, and italian (instead of chicken fingers) at italian restaurants... Japanese to me is sushi/sashimi or udon (noodles).
And by the way... although many people call it a Hibachi grill, its actually a tepanyaki grill... Hibachi is more like a weber/coleman charcoal grill... but then again, I don't eat the cooked stuff anyways (except the Tempura)
Tokyo Steakhouse is an excellent steakhouse. The food is the best Japanese food we have ever ate. We drive more than 2 hours just to dine at Tokyos. The staff is always pleasant & put on a great show...I agree if you want fast food head to Mcdonalds.
