Sorry if I offend anyone, but I'm originally from CT (recently moved to WV)and have eaten in some really good Chinese restaurants in the CT/NY area. Lam's is just plain awful. I had some hints - the plastic red and yellow sauce dispensers on the table, no noodles with duck sauce/hot mustard on the table, the waitress saying that the cashew chicken didn't have MSG since it didn't have the prepackaged (ugh!) brown sauce in it.
But to go on to the details:
The hot and sour soup is neither hot nor sour, I could tell by the color (light brown instead of the rich dark brown it should be) that it would be disappointing. If Campbell's made hot & sour soup, this is what I'd expect.
I had orange beef, which should be crispy with a somewhat sticky hot/sweet orange flavored sauce - it came soggy, obviously not fried hot or long enough (again a pale tan color - must be the place's color of choice), the breading falling off the meat as soon as you cut it. The sauce was a salty brown gravy (guess who got the MSG!!)with no taste of orange whatsoever. To continue the canned food analogy, if Chef Boy-R-Dee made orange beef......
My wife had the cashew chicken (where everywhere eslse I've been comes with brown sauce) which wasn't as bad as my meal, but still was not up to par, primarily because it appeared to be steamed (or nuked) instead of stir fried.
Only good thing to say was that the egg roll she had wasn't bad.
Again, not to hurt anyone's feelings, taste in everything, especially food,is very personal, but if you think this is good chinese, you need to get out more.
I have been eating at Lam's Garden since I was under a year old and I am 19 now. There are more vegetarian options than just fried beans and rice like a previous reviewer stated. I personally think their steamed peapods and water chestnuts are very good. I'm not a vegetarian though so I have to say my all time favorite dish there is General Tso's chicken. I have been to countless Chinese restaurants and I do not think anyone makes it better than Lam's Garden.
Makes me want some Lam's Chicken. Yum Yum: I love Lam's Garden. For lunch the price is great. And I usually have food left over to take home. I always get the Hot and Sour Soup (My mouth is watering just thinking about it). The Lam's Chicken is also a favorite of mine as is the Chicken with Garlic Sauce. My daughter likes ordering white rice with just a bowl of the Lam's chicken sauce. The price is higher in the evenings and weekends but you do get bigger portions it seems. Don't believe I have ever seen any beans tho. You will not go home hungry.
