The Pub. If you've ever been to Athens, Ohio, those two words will bring back fond, if not a bit cloudy memories. The bar is a true original, serving up great dive food at an amazing price, and enough alcohol to kill a whole team of horses!

If you visit the town for a football game, basketball game, mom's weekend, dad's weekend, ANY weekend.... and you're lucky enough to get a seat from anytime after the place opens at around 10:00 until close.... grab yourself a bacon cheeseburger, some fries, and an 34oz aquarium of your favorite brew and sit back and enjoy yourself in one of the most fun and entertaining college towns in the country.

If you stay long enough, you'll find some darn good prices during the happy hour and clearance sales, as they try to empty out the kegs from the day in order to change them out for fresh ones for the night life crowd.

This place is a must for me on every visit back to Ohio University. Quite often at Homecoming, there will be a line of alums waiting for the doors to open to grab a couple of pitchers of bloody marry's and start off the weekend early on Friday. If you're lucky to be in town on the Saturday of Homecoming, expect kegs and eggs as early as 5:00am.

Go to the Pub if you're EVER in Athens, or anywhere near there frankly. You will not regret your decision, and you'll be longing to go back for the rest of your life :)

I graduated in '89. Back then they only had beer cheese soup on Wednesdays. So even on my weekend visits... no soup. I live in Florida now and I haven't had the famous soup since I graduated.

Please send me some soup! I have a Beer Cheese Soup deficiency. It's the Pubs fault. Glad to know it's still around though. I have hope.

Go To The Pub If You Are EVER in Athens, Ohio!: I love this place. It is the first bar I ever drank in when I was going to OU, and every year for homecoming, it is the first bar I go back to when I arrive. The food is excellent! Bacon Cheeseburgers are the best thing on the menu, and on Wednesdays and Sundays their famous Beer Cheese Soup. The best value of all is the aquarium of beer, and enormous draft beer served in a giant fish-bowl looking glass. They average about $3.00 a piece for something like 34 ounces of beer. You simply can't beat that!!! It is truly a gem of Ohio University, so much so that when OU played Pittsburgh in Football and it was televised nationally on ESPN, they had cameras at the Pub to show the students partying up there before and during (and I'm sure) after the game. Stop in if you're ever in town for a game, visiting your kids, or just passing through, you will not regret the visit!!!!!!!!
