Charbonos - Avon

The food is excellent, especially the pasta dishes, which is the only reason they are still in business. The service is really bad, they are slow to take your order and slower to come back to see if you need anything else. I assume the owners have decided this is not an issue since they seemed to have made no effort to improve the service in the last couple of years. The last time my husband and I were there – I hunted down the server twice to get items we needed. I almost left without paying – but they finally managed to get us our check. It’s such a shame that a nice atmosphere and good food are ruined by lousy service. I'd giving the place an overall rating of 2 - which is a shame.

My wife & I made a spontaneous choice to try Charbonos in Avon. The parking lot was full which is a good sign. The two of us were seated at a table for 6 in the bar almost immediately. I ordered a glass of wine and my wife ordered imported beer after which there was about a 10 or 12 minute wait for our drinks, menus, water, etc which seemed a little bit long but not too bad. A music band was setting up their instruments just next to our table. The menu is laid out a little strangely, for example, entrees did not include a side dish and if one wants a side dish, one must order a side dish for two people. Only the expensive entrees (steaks) included a side salad. My wife ordered a pasta dish and paid extra for the side salad. I ordered French onion soup and a bistro steak salad (medium rare). Both my wife's salad & pasta were excellent - perfect. My French onion soup was very good. My bistro steak salad was not very good at all. The steak portion was a thin cut that was overcooked (medium well) and the salad portion was saturated with a strong wine vinegar dressing such that it ruined the salad. I ate the less than average steak portion and discarded the horrible salad portion. I should have ordered the same house salad that my wife ordered. The cook was careless with my meal, and I should have sent it back after the first bite but for some reason, I did not - maybe because it would have been awkward. The service was okay, not great just okay.

I will probably give Charbonos another chance because my wife's meal was perfect and because "just okay" service is actually okay with me.

The overall grade, taking into consideration the price of the meal is a C minus. Charbonos needs to improve the consistency of the quality of the food as it leaves the kitchen.

This restaurant has a great atmosphere and yummy food, but it's a bit on the expensive side, still great though. Heck, this is the kind of place where you could propose to your girlfriend, that's just how good it is yo!!!
