My husband and i went to Papa Joe's on New Years Eve. We waited 5 minutes and we were seated. Our server was very nice and he explained the menu and offered suggestions. I had the Shrimp and Crab Alfredo and my husband had a sausage dish. I absolutely loved the atmosphere and food was great. We will definitely be back to experience a true Italian restaurant.
Mama Mia!: loved the atmosphere; lots of choice on menu; service excellent; prices OK.
Date gone bad.: My wife and I rarely get a chance to go out without the kids, but this night we finally had a chance. We wanted a family-owned type of place and not the chain-food places that litter Avon. We decided to go to Papa Joes. We got there with very little waiting, and they told us it would be 10 minutes. It was cold out that night and we quickly found out that there is NO waiting area that is warm. We also learned that the take-out business takes priority over the waiting in line business. We heard one order taken over the phone, and then ten minutes later they were there picking it up, and letting in cold air on what was now shoulder-to shoulder waiting. 20 minutes later, we opted, after the hostes felt sorry for us to sit in the bar, away from the front door. Well... that was nice, but the bartender seemed really friendly until we just said that we wanted a couple diet cokes while we waited. Now a total of 40 minutes since we were told 10, we were finally led to a table in the middle room, accross the room from a table of at least 20 REALLY LOUD people who had pulled together all but three of the tables. There we sat, the two of us in a room with like six tables on one side if the room and three on the other. We felt like we were sitting in the middle of a McDonald's with half of the tables removed. Then, to top it off a table of ten came in and they asked us to change tables to accomodate them. Nice. So much for any romance! We went there for a nice quiet night out and spent about 1:45 of raging poor service. It was just a bad experience all around. The food was good, but the rooms were so cold that we could not enjoy the piping hot food. We could not communicate with each other or our server because of the loud party going on. Seemed real pricey to us when compared to the other Italian places we love in Carmel and in Fort Wayne. Charbonos is more the place to go for what we expected.
