I thought the environment was great with a friendly atmosphere. It was moderatly busy when I went there friday night for dinner with a friend in Indianapolis who speaks of only positive things about this establishment. I walked in with high hopes just to be dissapointed by our server. He told us his name but I can't remember what it was. He was very young looking *18ish with short dark hair.. very skinny* It took him a long time to greet us because I guess we aren't suspsoed to seat ourselves. He made it quite clear we were in the wrong for doing so even though it wasn't that busy. I guess we would have been greeted promptly if we didn't let the sign go un-noticed. His general demeaner was quite ill from that point on. We could see our drinks made but he was busy goofing off rather then actually grabbing our drinks from the bar. My friend said this is not typical and he apologized repeatedly. I will come back if I am back in Indianapolis but I will ask for a different server. I give it a 4/5 because it was good except for the service part.
My boyfriend and I met in Indianapolis last summer. We live in different cities (too far apart) and we met last weekend in Indy for some romance. We went to English Ivy's because we remember seeing it listed in the Damron guide...usually a poor way to pick a restaurant. We were looking for something casual & comfortable and English Ivy's provided the perfect experience. We walked in and immediately felt at home - great clientele, great staff and great fried pickles. The next time we visit Indy we look forward to visiting again.
I'm recently new to the Indianapolis area and was informed that English Ivy's was "the" place to socialize throughout the week. No doubt, I've found the staff and community extremely friendly and welcoming with an exception of one stand-out person. I noticed her misbehaviour and immaturity instantly. I asked around and others refer to her as Gina, and a part of the Ivy's staff. Gina seems to be well known due to her unbecoming conduct. She quickly caught my attention the very first night I walked in to the bar. She was extremely loud, controversial, obnoxious and seemed to want to fight with just about every individual, including the staff for one reason or another. I've seen her in the bar since and she is always on target, she even called me out and I don't even know her. The management/ownership really needs to investigate this individual, she is hurting your business. She was literally scareing people from the establishment while severely threatening and intimidating others. I would rate this scene a 5 with the exception of GINA, I'll have to give you a 4. I thought this was a social bar and not a place to be threatened or scared away. Please note, I have no intention of singleing anyone out, she is out of control and an eyesore to the establishment and newcomers alike. Sorry Gina, it's just a fact!
