About:Opened in 1986 in the heart of Broad Ripple Village, a small eclectic area on Indianapolis' North Side. The location offers an assortment of restaurants, boutiques, galleries and shops. Midtown Grill is a great place to have dinner and stroll around on a pleasant evening. The menu offers filet-mignon flamed tableside, house made salad dressings and desserts, chicken, pasta, fresh fish and vegetarian choices. Patio dining; weather permitting. Seasonal Lunch Hours. Closed for lunch mid-December through mid-April. Special menu for New Years Eve and Valentine's day. Reservations accepted, but not required.
Hours:11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 pm. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. Friday, 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday. Closed Sunday, bar closed Monday.

    Great Food, Great Atmosphere: The setting of Midtown Grill is very chic and uptown. Black and white themes dominate the place, and overall it feels like a place where young hip people would eat. And for the most part it is. Another reviewer said it's a restaurant for young professionals, and he was certainly correct.

    The service was exceedingly friendly and prompt. Our waitress had some good suggestions and had tried most of the menu, so she was able to answer questions about the dishes. The menu isn't very extensive, but there's a huge amount of creativity and flair there. The wine list is extensive and covers the lower priced wines to Dom Perignon at $200 a bottle. Appetizers offer variety, as do salads.

    Our appetizer of calamari was delicious. Most calamari you get is rubbery and almost inedible, but Midtown Grill must have access to better stock than most Italian restaurants as their calamari was just the right amount of chewiness. I should know, I lived in Italy. :)
    Additionally, the chef added red peppers and perhaps some jalapeño to the dish... it had a spiciness that was unusual but tasty. The lemon wedge traditionally served was missed, but they likely would have brought one had we requested.

    The salad we chose was the Heirloom Tomato Salad. This was amazingly good and the highlight of the evening. Think of a caprice salad stacked vertically with yellow and red tomato slices, buffalo mozzarella, and various greens. It was drizzled with a well-done balsamic reduction and fennel seed oil that perfectly complemented the saltiness of the cheese. I could go on for some time about this dish, but I'll move on after stating that if I made this myself, I would add some incredibly thin sliced red onion to it.

    My wife had the Linguine Carbonara. She was very pleased with the flavor of the bacon, peas, and pasta. We've had carbonara elsewhere, and it is a dish I make frequently, but this was a step above normal fare. The pasta came in a large portion, easily enough for two. The bread served with dinner (a boulle I believe,) complemented the dish well.

    I ordered the Rack of Lamb medium rare, served with bacon onion potatoes, black fig compote, and sauteed baby carrots. I personally could have done without the carrots, as alone they have almost no flavor after being sauteed, but the rest was incredible. The figs were placed on top of the lamb which was served on the potatoes. The flavor of the figs permeated the potatoes, which created a unique and amazing taste. I'd go back for just those potatoes. The lamb was cooked well, but lamb is lamb for the most part. As long as it's not cooked incorrectly, you get what you ask for.

    We skipped dessert as we were totally stuffed from the meal. After a generous tip, the total bill came to around $90. All in all an excellent anniversary meal, and I would gladly revisit Midtown Grill in the future. Next time I plan on making it to the dessert... the Chocolate Molten Cake with a wild berry compote sounds almost too good to pass up!

    Give Midtown Grill a try if you're out for a special occasion but don't necessarily want a black tie experience. And my compliments to the chef!

    Elegant dining, great food: Perfect for romantic evenings or business dinners. The food is fantastic, but not cheap. The drinks are good and tend to be worth their price. Service has always been good, and there's always a chance you might run into a local celebrity.

    Midtown Grill: Although this restaurant can be costly when you're wanting something casual. Its always a favorite spot to dine and enjoy the canal, located in the heart of Broad Ripple..
