I love Pumps on 12! I'm a regular I go there quite a few times a week. Once you start going, you just cant get enough of this little restaurant. There pizza is AMAZING! they have a cracker crust and they hand make the pizza's. They have 1/3 and 1/2 burger's that are the best in Indiana, I strongly believe you can get whatever you want at Pumps. You want a perch dinner, you can get it fried or broiled, with a choice of a potato and soup or salad. They have catfish, steak, and meatball sandwiches. There's many more to choose from too. Awesome hand dipped onion rings like no other place around! I'd try there beef and blue salad too. Whatever you get I'm positive you'll enjoy it! The bar gives you that "at home" feeling. Just gorgeous! There is so much history. They still have the original pumps located on the patio outside. There are license plates everywhere in the bar, from all over the country! its nice to just get up and walk around. You can bring your family of seven or have a drink with your loved one! The servers are excellent. My two favorite are Wendy and Janet very lovely lady's! The cooks know exactly what they're doing! I have a great experience every time I go. Its a must to stop by if your passing through, but I'd honestly go out of my way for this wonderful place!
Emily, that review from Larry King was many, many moons ago.
I cracked up about the "beef is already cooked," what the hell is that! I can totally believe that though. The people who bought this joint a couple years ago (2006?) are doing a fine job at running it in to the ground. The food was never really killer but they did have a jumping bar scene with attractive and friendly bar maids, cool clientele and a nice atmosphere. The new owners have been able to turn that around and have killed the ambiance 100%. I'm actually surprised the place is still around, I have a sense it's dieing on the vine. You could have done a better job of wrecking a restaurant but you'd have to put together the entire staff of Cornell's hospitality school in a think tank for about a month to find a better formula.
Very good location on old hwy 12, charming old gas station building, TERRIBLE food, staff, owners and bar.
Larry King what are you thinking?: In a frame on the wall near the host booth at the Pumps on 12 you'll see a list of 1980's stars favorite bars; Larry King lists the Pumps on 12. Larry, Larry, Larry what are you thinking? When we asked for our steaks to be medium, the waitress told us that it was impossible because the beef was already cooked. Already cooked? No coleslaw as a side? The best thing about this place is the friendly waitstaff and history of the area printed on some of the menus.
