User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThis is the best restaurant in South Bend for both service and food quality, hands-down. It's inside an 1851 church, just west of South Bend, very near exit 72 of Interstate 80/90. It's crowded with out-of-towners on the weekends, and there is a very good reason why. This restaurant is actually listed on the Chicago Zagat guide.
I have had the dover sole, the steak diane, the veal Baltimore, and the filet, among the dishes I remember. They use local sourcing for nearly all their food, with morel mushrooms when in season.
There are other good locally-owned restaurants in South Bend (LaSalle Grill, the Summit Club, Yesterday's, etc.), but the Carriage house beats them all.
No, I've never worked there; I'm just a very loyal customer.
