We were there for breakfast on 8/11/2009. We had the buffet and could not have been happier. The food was tasty, especially the fruit dish with the grapefruit and bananas. The waitress was very helpful in explaining things we weren't familiar with and took good care of us. The whole staff seemed cheerful. It is a lovely facility. It was a pleasure to eat there and I would look forward to going back if I am ever in the area again.
When we stopped for lunch on 1/26/09, we were served a loaf of bread that was obviously day old and had been reaheated in a microwave for too long a time. The waitress did nothing about it when we complained. After looking at the menu, we went elsewhere. I refuse to pay $10 for two pieces of chicken and some dressing. I will never go there again. KP
The Blue Gate is in a prime tourist trap location, at the main intersection in Shipshewana IN. The food was marginal under any circumstances, and the price per meal outragious for canned green beans, soupy luke warm instant mashed potatos, canned gravy, over boiled chuck roast, (the chicken was ok). I guess we were paying for "atmosphere", real horses that pull "amish" buggy rides dropping their road apples were hitched right outside the main entrance. I do like horses, and the genuine old order dude, with a long white beard, that drove the buggy was a people person. It was all you can eat, but I sure didn't want seconds. In short canned, and pre preped food, over priced, (could have had prime rib for that), won't go back, ever.
