My brother Joeseph has three ink jobs from this shop. The first one is a tribal tattoo that he designed himself. The artist said it was too detailed and changed the design.
I don't know why my brother went through with getting inked if the artist couldn't live up to his expectations, but a respectable artist wouldn't have given him a tattoo knowing he couldn't deliver the goods. Needless to say, my brother wasn't happy with the result.
A person with good judgement would have found a new tattoo shop for his next inking. However, my teenaged brother has gone back twice since. His second tattoo was good, but the design is basic and would have been difficult to mess up.
Unfortunatly, the last tattoo Joey got at Candy Apple is horrible. The design lacks depth and realism. To be honest it's very amateur. I'm an art student in my Junior year at IPFW, and these guys are producing very poor quality work. My brother's pathetic tattoo cost $180 of his hard earned cash and is aesthetically unpleasing to the eye. What was supposed to look like red droplets of blood ended up looking like a skin rash or boils.
I have since gone online to look at the artists' portfolios. It's a mixed bag of work. Some tattoos are really good, but I see problems with tattoos that incorporate aspects of perspective drawing.
Three dimensional tattoos should not appear flat or have perspective that is off. Furthermore, there are major problems with the artists' tattoos of the human figure. Namely, a woman's frame should not have a male build. Drawing a male frame and slapping boobs on it makes it appear like a transvestite (not a woman). Seriously, there are too many anatomical mistakes for someone that calls themself a professional artist.
Don't make the same mistake as my brother. Find someone that has actual art school instruction and isn't just a self taught tattoo hack. It makes a difference. The basic tenants of art don't just apply to drawing, painting, and scupting; they apply to tattooing as well.
I would never step foot into this shop. By no means am I a great artist, but my art instruction allows me to recognize good art when I see it. This is not it. Pathetic!
I went in to get my nose pierced, they guy at the front was a little short but the guy who actually did the piercing explained everything and made it quick and painless. I was very pleased with the guy who did the actual piercing.
I went there to price out a tattoo cause my guy was booked for awhile and they were very rude on top of having NO idea what they were talking about! The tattoo I had drawn up was rather small and I knew it would have to be blown up slightly bigger to be legible and I wanted it on my back well the guy was like "I do not do letter smaller than two inches so it will have to end up being a back piece and cost you around $500 dollars" So I called my usual guy and he said he would have to blow the letters up slightly to, again be legible, and it ended up costing me $80 and being the way I wanted it, not the way the artist wanted it, they don't have to live with it! I would never ever recommend this place to ANYONE!!!!
