First experience at the Ice House was the host being short with my party and a couple waiting to be seated. He asked who was next and neither of us were certain, and he got testy that we didn't answer immediately. (There ended up being around 5 parties in the entire establishment at the time...not like it was so busy he had to hurry us!). We asked for non-smoking and was told the entire place was non-smoking until 3pm. We were seated right next to the bar. The place was NOT non-smoking until 3pm, as around 2pm there was a lady smoking right in front of the restroom I had to walk by. Then two guys were seated at the bar smoking a cigarette and a cigar, which I could smell (definitely NOT NON-SMOKING). The food was okay, but be careful with any special orders--ordered a sandwich and didn't want cheese, but it was delivered with cheese. And be cautious if you are using the menu online, as it is obviously outdated and the prices on some items have changed (e.g. Chicken Livers went from $7.25 to $9.99, which was strange since you can order the dinner for $10.10.) The waitress was friendly and did a good job of removing dishes and refilling drinks. However, unlike what the owner tried to claim on his website, this is NOT a family friendly restaurant. Nor did we feel like "part of the family" during our first (and most likely our last) visit.
GREAT ATMOSPHERE...WONDERFUL FOOD. AND ALWAYS QUICK
This place is a community institution. the waitresses are friendly and helpful and effecient. You meet people you know there. The mayor, local business people, pastors, people of all ages eat at the Icehouse. The food is good and the portions are generous and the staff don't seem to mind special requests. Marion without the Icehouse wouldn't be Marion.
