I've been eating at Ivanhoe's all my life, and have always loved it. Sure, their ice cream and shakes can not be beat, but it's really the food that is amazing. Their ceasar chicken sandwich and strawberry lemonades make the BEST meal ever. Hands down. Love it ;)
Being a local for the past 40 years I've seen Ivanhoe's grow from a walk
up hamburger and milkshake stand back in the 60's to the bustling small
town restaurant that it is today. The milkshakes were good then and still
touted by many as the best around. I might add that it's the only restaurant that hasn't had to shut it's doors in the town of Upland, IN.
Thank goodness for Ivanhoe's where quality has always been the rule!
Although it's true about the service being quicker if you call it in and
pick it up at the carry out window.
Very good ice cream and sandwiches, but the service is terribly slow. The order-taking and cashier systems are inefficient. Expect to spend at least a half hour waiting on your order on most "normal" days when college is in session, and even longer after sports activities or holidays. The locals say to phone in your order and then come pick it up since they appear to give preference in service to carry out customers. Ivanhoes is worth the experience once, but don't plan on dining there often unless you have lots of time to kill!
