Best pulled pork ever. I've looked everywhere since I moved to California and nothing compares. Shyler's is the 1st place I go when I get off the plane.
BBQ is mediocre. Prices are pretty good. Service staff is awful!!! I've been there approx 10 times within the past few years and i cannot recall a single time i have had a good server!
I have been a fan of shylers for years but in the last 2-3 years the service has gone down the tubes. The last time my wife and I ate there (and probably the last time we will ever eat there) was aug 31. The temperature at our table was 85 degrees, I could tell because there were two old thermometers within sight. Our server brought our drinks to us holding them by the top of the glasses, when the water my wife ordered tasted bad he took the glass away but did not bring her the sweet tea she requested as a replacement untill she had already emptied my drink and he offered to refill it - leaving me without a drink. When we were finished eating he did not offer to take away our plates, only brought us a check. even after we piled up the dishes and scooted them to the edge of the table he left them there. A couple were seated directly behind us and i overheard them complaining about the heat. The server said it was always this hot on this side of the restraunt and arrainged for them to sit in the other dining room. I wish I had known this. I was literally dripping sweat onto the table from my forehead as I ate. After paying and leaving the table my wife and I stepped into the other dining area and as we approached it we felt a cold breeze. It was very cool in there. I stopped to ask the hostess why there were people being seated in the hot room because it was miserable and the other room was so cool(it wasn't like one was full so they were using the other). I told her that noone should be seated in that dining area it was too hot her only response was to shake her head and say "there's nothing I can do about it." i asked to speak to a manager she pointed at something that had a phone # on it and told me to call and ask for one. after asking if there was a manager i could speak with NOW some one went to get them. As she approached I realized that it would be pointless to bring my concerns to her attention, I had never seen this woman before(shouldn't the manager be making his/her way around checking on things?) in my 10 years eating at this restraunt I don't think i have ever seen this happen. To sum up my conversation with the manager I'll just say I told her about what had happened and all she could is smile and say "I am so sorry" no offer to refund or discount our meal, no promise to address the problems -nothing- . I just turned and walked away. through the whole thing I was calm, obviously upset but not angry or hard to deal with. Does the owner care about training to ensure good service? Hiring and keeping only polite and courteous staff? (the floor in the entire restrtaunt was also very slippery. several elderly people were complainig about slipping and sliding on it)
