La Scala Business Overview

Edit Info

Company Information: La Scala (in full Teatro Alla Scala) is Italian for "Theatre at the Stairway." In Milan, La Scala is one of the principal opera houses of the world and the leading Italian house. Built in 1776 by the Empress Maria Theresa of Austria (which then ruled Milan), it replaced an earlier theatre that had burned. In 1872, it became the property of the city of Milan. The house was closed during World War I. In 1920 the conductor Arturo Toscanini led a council that raised money to reopen it, organizing it as an autonomous corporation. The theatre, bombed during World War I, reopened in 1946, partly through funds raised by benefit concerts given by Toscanini.

This place is by far the best Italian food in town--probably the state. Everything we had was wonderful. Chef Francisco went out of his way to specially make a dish for my wife due to her food allergies. He told me everything is made fresh when we order it so they can handle almost any special orders. Glad to see they just added a new bar. We tried some of their martini's and they were great. Also, they have a great wine menu. We have never had a bad wine there. Highly recommended!

By far my best experience ever in a hometown restaurant. Staff is nice and will spend time getting to know you and make you feel at home. Food Is EXCELLENT. I have never had better The atmosphere is perfect for a first date and anniverseries basically is great for that once a year meal. I have been there several times i feel it rivals restaurants in chicago. BEST PLACE TO EAT IN TOWN and it won't cost alot me and my wife came had drinks appetizers and entree's and dessert 0nly 65 dollars now seriously who can beat that?

Everyone I asked said that La Scala was the best Italian place in town. Apparently, everyone was on acid. From outside, it looks wonderful. Inside, the tables are so packed together that you end up elbowing the stranger next to you. There is nothing about it that sets it apart from any other mediocre restauarant. The decorations are tacky and don't set the mood at all. Our appetizer was alright, but the main courses were absolutely wretched. My fish was undercooked and after I got home I became so ill that I puked. My boyfriend's pasta was hard as if it had been left out for hours. The portions were small. Not only that, but it cost 60 dollars for the two of us to eat. If you want to eat Italian in town, you'd be better off going to Spagheddi's. It's cheaper and the food is ten times better.
