The family video chain is one of the better chains of video stores I've experienced. There is nothing better than free kids' movies, without the need for additional rentals. (Well with the exception of free beer Tuesdays at I LUV VIDEO in Austin, TX, but honey we ain't in Texas anymore).
However, the Berkley location leaves something to be desired. Unlike my first experience with Family Video while in college at Northern Michigan Univeristy, the Berkley location does not offer free rentals after X number of videos.Apparently teh various Family Video locations are not linked together so even if you've rented at another Family Video location you'll have to create a new account to rent here. (Which could be good if owe a lot of $ to another location)
This location also has kind of a strange smell to it. Half of the DVD's I've rented here have not played properly, thought whenever this has happened they've give us "rental credit" for a free movie. Of course that doesn't fix the fact the DVD I wanted to watch didn't' work. Also their late fees cost more than the original $1 movie.
The do have some of their soft-core, or at least less hard-core adult movies, mixed in with their regular selections. So you may or may not like this. Kind of odd for a place named Family Video. I understand that every Family has a scary uncle Larry, but he can stay in the back room by himself.
There selection is OK, as good as any other chain (like BlockBuster) but all in all, if you don't mind driving a few miles Thomas Video in Royal Oak is a better choice.
