My friend and I visited Cafe Sushi last night for the first time, based on the reviews here. We were impressed with the high quality sushi. I have been eating sushi for only 2 years, but my friend has been enjoying sushi for 20 years. We both thought that the salmon was the best we have had. We also enjoyed some of the rolls including the triple spicy and the Lori rolls. They were outstanding! We also got the tuna tataki appetizer and saved 20% on all sushi. It's nice to have another more authentic option to Kona Grill. Thanks to Cafe Sushi for keeping their standards on quality during these tough economic times, and thank you to the reviewers for the recommendation. We also checked out a very nice little pub called "Baily's" in the same plaza for a drink while we waited for Cafe Sushi to open at 5:30. It was so well appointed, a cigar room, oak paneling, a pool room, several tv's, and over 30 beers on tap. Who knew the Walmart plaza housed such treasures!!
This review is based completely on the quality of the food. Other tidbits thrown in.
The food was really good. I especially enjoyed anything with spicy tuna (which I don't normally like). I went with 2 other people so I got to try 8 or so different menu items. The appetizer we ordered wasn't anything special (some sort of breaded oyster) but we got 20% off all sushi when we ordered it so it was well worth it. Being from cali, this michigan sushi was on par with some of our places back home.
Some cons were that some dishes that I'm used to having warm were not served that way. I'm not sure if this was a result of the slightly slow service or just preference of the chef.
Of other note: the restrooms were very nice (similar to what you would see in a fancy LA steakhouse) and the server was very helpful. She allowed us to switch out a "martini-like" drink for a different one when the drink didn't quite match the taste we were looking for.
Cost wise, it was also comparable to other places I'm used to. Simple rolls were 4, 5 or 6 bucks and specialty rolls are between 12 and 14 bucks. We ended up with completely full stomachs for 70 bucks + tip (the martini was 8 bucks).
All and all, this was a quality place. I haven't been to others around this area but this was a nice place.
This has to be the best place in Metro Detroit to have Sushi. It is fresh, the rice is excellent. The staff is more then friendly. I have been going here for years and will continue to do so. Have recommended it to friends and they drive over an hour now just to eat there.
