I tried Zingerman last night with my familie. The service was totally unprofessional and the dishes overpriced. My wife had to go to the restroom because she became sick. I had Maryland Crab Stuffed Sand Dabs with potatoes , my daughter Pit Smoked Beef Brisket which was eatable my wife chicken in lemon sauce. This shall be "good american cooking" I doubt it.
Overpriced and overhyped.
This place reminds me of the old adage that if you say something with conviction, it doesn't necessarily mean it's true. Seems the reviews on this place leave me scratching my head. Like Tom Hanks in "Big", "I don't get it."
My wife read some of the reviews, and we decided to stop in on a trek into MI. Two sandwiches and two drinks - $33. Oh...no chips or cole slaw.... that was literally for two sandwiches and two drinks.
Perhaps it's the green factor - the clientele certainly appeared as though that would be a selling point. Perhaps they drag the corned beef in by donkey or goat or something saving the earth from the greenhouse gases created by trucking it in. Who knows?
But let's face, they charge insane prices because the lemmings will pay it. Go Figure? Go Blue! Seems they've convinced themselves the reviews must be right, and they should gladly fork over the ludicrious cost of a sandwich.
Positives, the neighborhood is quaint, the building is a throwback, and they hire many and very friendly young people.
All I know is, while it's a good sandwich, it's not twice as good as a regular deli sandwich - it's simply not.
everybody who is trashing zingermans is confused. I've grown up knowing an owner of zingermans family, who also are really cool and make really good food. I have been to zingermans a countless number of times and they have top quality ingredients that end up in a great sandwich, their management is also top notch. So I wouldn't recommend it to you if you have an aqquired taste for burger king and dennys, but if you are knowledgable when it comes to deli meats and bread this is the spot. Not overated.
