About:For 70 years, this small history museum has fought budget cuts to preserve the often-neglected history of Detroit. It makes for an excellent short outing. A basement exhibit allows visitors to stroll down cobblestone, cedar block and brick streets past recreations of 19th-century shops. Another exhibit documents Detroit's key role in the Underground Railroad that helped escaped slaves find freedom in Canada. Also illustrated is Detroit's emergence as an automobile manufacturing center.
Hours:Monday Closed, Tuesday Closed, Wednesday 09:30 AM - 3:00 PM, Thursday 09:30 AM - 3:00 PM, Friday 09:30 AM - 3:00 PM, Saturday 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Sunday 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM - Monday and Tuesday closed to the public but available for group tours by calling (313)833-7979.

    CORRECTION TO YAHOO CITY GUIDE...There is $4.OO parking at the rear of the museum, $4.00 as of 7/2009. There is no free parking within walking distance.

    Just Wonderful!: History is very important, especially in a city such as Detroit, This is a great outing for families and children or just you're self, I love this place just like the others, and Detroit is filled with so much history, more than I can think of on my own. Everytime I go to this museum and any other in Detroit, I learn something new...every single time, not only is it very important, its really fun!
