| About: | Replacing the beloved old Olympia Stadium in 1974, Joe Louis Arena did not inspire immediate affection. Views are good even from the most distant of its 19,275 seats, but the architecture is uninspiring. Deck parking is available nearby, but the arena itself is jammed between the river and a freeway, and its exterior is confusing and indistinct. Named after the Detroit-born boxer of the 1930s, it's the home of the National Hockey League's Detroit Red Wings but is also used for collegiate hockey, concerts of every variety, wrestling, circus and even Disney on Ice shows. The People Mover stops at its door, so you can park elsewhere downtown and get here quickly. |

Terrible!: Went to a Nickelback concert Monday, July 16th. The place was filthy and EVERY womens bathroom had a line stacked at least 75 people deep. If you had to pee, you missed alot!! Security made sure we didn't get into the men's bathrooms that had no line too! So basically, everyone just had someone blocking them in a corner and pissed on the floor or in a beer cup!
Beer is expensive, $8.00 for a 24 oz can.
Food lines were way too long.
Getting out of the darn place was impossible! Sure am glad there was no fire in there or half of us would have died!
Joe Louis Rawks!: I know I wont be the only person to sit here and say that I've experienced many a good moments at the Joe... from memorable hockey highlights to ear echoing concerts to all time main wrestling events... I just have to say that if there was ever a place to visit in the heart of Detroit... Visit the Joe!
