Did not like those arrogant creatures that were serving food. Asked for advice about the platter that was brought to the table, and the waiter acted like I was bothering him, no doggie bags! They were not friendly and I will not recommend them to anybody I know.

We wanted to try something different and had read the reviews about the Blue Nile. We got there and weren't sure what to expect but we were open to the experience. My husband is a passionate carnivore and I am a 90% raw & eat 10% cooked vegetarian food.
When we got there we waited about 5 mts. before anyone noticed us and then we were asked if we wanted traditional seating or a booth. We wanted to sit traditionally. The traditional seating consists of 2 chairs, a woven, rounded "bowl" with a tablecloth over it. Our "table" was a 10x10 area directly to our left where our drinks & such were placed.
There seemed to be a huge language barrier. We recieved our menus and it was a good 15 minutes before anyone asked if wanted drinks or if we wanted to order.
The server/host finally made his way over to us and I ordered a nigerian honey wine. It tasted more like campaigne, def. a dissapointment. My husband asked what soft drinks they had and the waiter/host went and got a wine menu, which we already had. So I had to prompt our waiter/host with a question, "do you have pepsi, coke..."
No ever took our order, we just sat at our "table" wondering what was going on. Tempted to leave.
Instead of placing our order, a waitress came over with a rounded, metal tray with 6 or so different vegetarian foods on it. Cooked spinach, 3 different kids of lentils, potatoes & cabbage. The food was placed in the center of the tablecloth above the wicker center. Instead of utensils we recieved a almost chewy type bread that was very thin & white. We were to use this bread to eat our food with.
Everything to me tasted the same, very bland and very boring. Next came the meat which I could not eat and my husband finished most of it off. I had about 5 bites and couldnt' eat anymore.
We waited and waited for the staff to come back to check on us and they never did. We had to flag someone down to ask for our bill, no language barriers there.
The bill ended up being around 50 dollars which was utterly ridicilous considering the amount of food we ate and that we never really had a say so as to what we were going to end considering there seemed to be many options on the menu.
I felt that we had to play along with the whole ethnic things. Certainly didn't feel welcome or taken care of.
We abs. will never go back, a COMPLETE dissapointment. I also think its very interesting that I'm having such trouble posting this review!!

Last nite was our first visit to Blue Nile. We made a reservation online being it was valentines day for 7:30. When we arrived it seemed as if the staff was in survival mode, clearly short handed and not bothering with checking reservations. We waited in the entrance with 5-6 other couples and after about 10 minutes our first contact with an employee was when they came to seat us and most of the other waiting guests.

once seated in a comfy booth we sank rite in and felt at home in the dimly lit and beautifully decorated dining area. the service was slow but forgivable given the pleasant waitstaff, being v-day and cool, smoke free atmosphere. it took 10-15 minutes to get a drink and menus but once we did things progressed fine. our waiter didn't speak much english but was as helpful as he could be and totally kind.

we ordered the all you can eat meat and salad for two and a bottle of honey wine. the meat and salads were spiced beautifully and served family style using a bubbly crepe type bread in place of utensils. yumm.

we didnt feel rushed at all while finishing the honey wine and forwent their limited dessert selections for some chocolate in royal oak.

all in all we fell in love with this charming neighborhood spot. it was our first experience with ethiopian food and it wasn't intimidating or difficult to order. i bet on an average nite the service is smooth and attentive. if they showed me that,i'd show them 5 stars!
