User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsStarter's Bar & Grill is the Best restaurant on the west side. They have the best drinks and some of the best food for your dollar. It is a Safe place to go with friends and family. The crowd is laid back and relaxed. It seems as if everyone there is treated like family. The service is excellent and the prices are incredible. Do Not miss Starter's Third restaurant opening on Woodward and Forest in January 2010.
User Rating: 2 out of 5 starsI remember when this place was a hole in the wall, long and narrow like a hall-way. They HAD the best quality of steaks in town. But now since they remodel the place it went down, it's more like a club than a restaurant.
When I went there (since they remodel) they had a bouncer at the door pat and checking people down, then on top of that there was a cover charge at the door!! A cover charge and bouncer at "a suppose to be family friendly restaurant" but it was late at night and it's lounge I guess.
The quality, the grain, & the texture of their steaks are horrible, the steaks had more fat then meat! I travel quite often and had steaks from Chicago & Texas so I know my steaks. The young lady I was with order her steak well done and it was burned to a crisp, even the fat was burn and tough.
The only thing I can say about this place is more like a bar than a restaurant. They have good drinks and chicken wings. It's a hot spot if you want meet some hot dames and broads or if young ladies want to meet some guys. Nice atmosphere with the TV's and the lights. But when it come to steaks, forgettaboutit!
User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsSTARTERS, A great START for a GOOD TIME!: When I visited this establishment with our ROYAL FAMILY of MYSPACE, I felt so welcomed! Uncle Sam, and the rest of the staff were very friendly and even came to our area to celebrate with us...They make you truly feel like ROYALTY in there!
It's our official spot for happy hours, and a bit more! We ROYAL FAMILY Members of Myspace LOVE YOU GUYS!!!

Starter's has NEVER charged a cover charge! Starter's DOES NOT pat people down at the door. Starter's IS a FAMILY FRIENDLY restaurant. Starter's only plays RELAXING music. This review is TOTALLY INCORRECT. Anybody that has ever been to Starter's knows that it is a family restaurant. On the weekends Starter's has the feel of a Lounge because people like to come enjoy dinner and a few drinks with their FRIENDS AND FAMILY. This is a A+++ Restaurant that has been around for over 30 years and is only getting bigger. Starter's is now adding a THIRD restaurant to their chain on woodward that will be open in JANUARY 2010. CHECK STARTER'S OUT!!!!!!!!
CLEARLY "ali" you are an owner, investor, or employee of Starters. I have dined at **** restaurants, some of the BEST Detroit has to offer and I would NEVER defend them in such a way you're doing. Your bias shows from every possible angle. And customers usually dont feel the need to promote (several times I might add) the opening or addition of restaurant chains. The place looks raggedy to say the least from the outside. And they have indeed charged a cover before. I was personally charged $5 the first time I went and have vowed to NEVER go back...and have never returned. I try not to frequent "hole in the wall" family-friendly restaurants/bars/lounges/etc, this is not exception. This place is nothing to brag about. OK place to meet an OK person.
