Coffee and Specialty Drinks with Flavor: While the Red Eye sets the standard for local coffee houses, it still has room for growth.
Daytime customers consist primarily of local people (including workers fromt he courthouse) who stop in, get a drink, and go. With them, one will find a small collection of college aged individuals on their laptops enjoying the free wi-fi connection along with a cup of the daily coffee.
Evenings the shop explodes into social action with many interesting regulars and friendly faces. The crowd extends from emo to punk to goth, with bits of just about every social subsect being represented. As such, people are both clickish and open to meeting new people. Getting to know someone is as easy as walking up and saying hi. For some, however, they would prefer to see a person around a couple times before being approached... it's all in the individual.
The shop's prices are fair to mildly costly. A cup of daily coffee is $1 with $0.50 refills or $1.25 in a cup to go. Specialty drinks can range up to $3.50 or so and extras (such as soy milk) can raise that price as well. The shop offers coffee, tea, soda, water, and a variety of mixed beverages, but no alcohol. This is a refreshing change compared to the many bars in the area.
On its second owner, the Red Eye has been around for quite some time, with few or no major changes in design and decor. This is comforting to many of the original customers, but does little to attract new clients.
It seems the owner is hesitant to put money into the business at times and planning seems to be lax at best. As such, they are often out of certain flavorings for drinks and others neccessities of such a shop.
That aside, the Red Eye is a great place to spend a night with friends or make new ones or to get away for a quiet mid-day drink while checking in with your internet contacts.
The Par: I set the standard for all coffee shops to the Red Eye. Its that good. Makes even the snobist of my coffee friends bow down. It's that good.
If you're emo and you know it: Hey, instead of slashing your wrists go here. Coffee is better for you than getting your emoness all over your carpet.
