Four of us visited Genii's on 01/12/08. We went at the height of the off-season, at 7pm on a Saturday night. As the dining room was only half-full, we were seated immediately by one of the waitresses.

Dinner prices for the Thai and Chinese dishes (what we were interested in) ranged from about $7.00 for a Vegetable Pad Park to $16.00 for the ½ lbs Lake Perch. Lunch menu items ranged from $5.00 to $8.00. There are also good selections of both Italian and American fair, but those choices seemed a bit uncomfortable on the menu next to so many authentic Thai and Chinese standards.

Between the four of us we ate a good selection of the Thai menu. Everything we had was wonderful with the only single complaint of the night being that the portions we so large that we could have easily split two entrees between the four of us. The Pad Thai was easily the best any of us has had in Michigan and ranks as some of the best that I’ve had outside of a few select restaurants in major cities.

The building itself is old, but with some charm. Bathrooms are cramped and the décor was forgettable. Parking is around back in a poorly lit lot. Everything was comfortable with the only curiosity being a salad bar that sat along one of the walls like a shameful afterthought, but it well stocked and fresh. Our waitress was sweet and efficient. We could not have asked her for more.

Overall this restaurant seemed out of place in Tawas. The Thai food was easily on par with some of the best restaurants that I’ve been to. And most of those weren’t physically attached to the side of a coffee shop overlooking an aging KFC. Do yourself a favor and make sure that you do not miss eating at this wonderful establishment.
