UGH. This place has been a friggin' nightmare. Now I know why my fellow computer gurus won't step foot into this place.
I recently purchased a notebook from them....because the price was unbeatable so I took the chance.
We were told by the kid who sold it to us that it had to be "checked" by their wanna-be tech area before it went out the door (power it up, etc). Lame, but whatever. Yeah...30 minutes of sitting by that damn counter did someone FINALLY get to us (there was nobody behind that desk) only to just SELL IT and not pull it out of the box.
And then they try and get you raked into their 3 year deal warranty. Don't do it. Don't buy into their "optimization" offers, either. Even the computer illiterate can follow some online directions found online to do something like this.
Got it home...was awesome....it truly was.....after I took out all the crap/promotional "hook-ya" software. And then.....I notice that the battery is not charging past 70%.
OK...not happy...but things happen.
I went through the tech support through HP and was then told to take it back to Best Buy. Good enough. I can deal with 15 minutes of running in and swapping it. Right??
WRONG. Everything with this place is COMPLICATED! Oh...no no no...I can'tjust do that. They have to put it on their own bench to test it to make sure it is defective.
WTF??? I want to EXCHANGE it for an EXACT SAME ONE! I don't want to upgrade to one 5 times worth that one! That means I have to go in and WAIT FOREVER AGAIN for these rotten geek people.
Yet...if I were to just return it (it has only been 3 days) for "buyers remorse" or whatever, my credit card would just be refunded back w/o going through this BS?? Looks like it.
SO...I may go that route and just re-buy it right there. What a lame-ass business.
Stay far away from expensive purchases from this place. You are better off ordering directly from a company. No hassles.
This best buy seemed to me like all other best buys (namely the only other two I've been to being GR and Traverse City) but a little worse.
On most days, the game demos are down and even when they are up, rock band is broken (a little annoyance for me).
The worst for me had to be the unknowledgable staff. When trying to find a cat5 cable I explained to I guy that I didn't want cat6 because it was too pricey and I didn't need the extra speed. He wasn't sure about it so he went to geek squad, asked them and told me to buy the cat6 because it would work just as well, completely ignoring what I had said 10 minutes before.
Usually when I'm in there to buy a part I get ignored and have to spend a good ten minutes trying to find a competent employee or one that isn't trying to sell a desktop to an eighty-year-old man. I guess I get ignored because I look like I know what I'm doing. Even geek squad took a long time to find out if a stick of ram was parity or ecc (it wasn't listed on the box).
Overall, the store is just fine but the staff is soooo lacking.
Best Local HD Techs: They put our package together to fit our needs and future home tech. plans. They made sure we had everything we needed and just in time to watch the big game. The audio equipment they sold us is so amazing. No matter what we listen to, we get the best sound.
