I have eaten here before a couple times, and I rather liked it. But this most recent time was EXTREMELY disappointing. Our waitress was THE WORST. She forgot numerous items we had asked for, got our order confused, and even though we asked her numerous times to MAKE SURE our lamb was very well done, she didn't handle this, and our lamb was pink. In short, she didn't listen to us AT ALL, and she wasn't that busy either, so there was really no excuse.
The other disappointing thing was the food. Our salda was not good. There was practically no veggies on our plate, even though vegetables were supposed to be part of the meal. The dessert was HORRIBLE... very soggy baklava with cheap-tasting chocolate squirted all over the plate (have you ever had baklava served with chocolate ???).
And the house wine we ordered was not good -- bitter after taste... and in the middle of the wine growing region of Michigan... no excuse for this.
And worst of all, the prices were quite high. $30 a plate for our entrees, with $7.99 for our "dinner salad". Wine and dessert extra, of course.
The manager came to our table and asked how our meal was. We gave him some feedback and he said "what can I do for you"... MY MISTAKE... instead of asking for a partial discount for the awful service, screwed up meal, and bad food, I didn't really reply, and he, of course, didn't offer to take anything off the bill.
Oh well... I gave this place 2 stars rather than one, because I had liked it (sort of) before... but I'll never go here again.
There are much better places to eat in the New Buffalo, Harbor country area.
The best restaurant in Harbor Country, hands down. Per the earlier review, it's recently been remodeled and looks snazzy. The service is always great -- the waitstaff is attentive and friendly -- and the dishes are comparable to what you'd get at the very best Middle Eastern restaurants in Chicago (in fact, I think Gulistan is even better than the places we went when living in the city). The only downside is that for us, it's a bit too costly for regular dining -- though it is possible to share a dish if you supplement with an appetizer, etc. Try the Ispanak -- you won't regret it. Can be very busy on summer weekends, but it is the ONLY place around that's truly worth the wait (and the money).
Very Nice People and Interesting Food: This is one of the friendliest restaurants in Harbour Country. The food isn't the best, but the prices are very reasonable and the staff are so helpful. The restaurant does need a facelift and the bathrooms could use some help as well. The lamb and fish dishes are the best bets. The desserts are overly sweet and not worth the calories. However, the coffee is superb.
