I had the unfortunate chance to work at the Snug Harbor in the past and I am proud to talk freely about it now. The kitchen is too small to accommodate their vast seating area thus the complaints on slow food time. The bar was proud to pour "cheater pints" as we call in the biz and the management was more than happy to rape the college students in the area of a livable wage. It is unfortunate that a restaurant in such a prime location has everything in their recipe book taken out of a Gordon's foods bottle. No originality whatsoever. If you are looking for a view of a sewage ridden channel and sub par food that is served up by owners who would rather protect their profit margin than serve a quality product than Snug is for you.
Staff accepted bribes for quicker seating. Generally our favorite restaurant... we visited during Coast Guard festival and were told an hour wait... after an hour and a half we were able to sit near hostess stand where we witnessed the hostess taking bribes from a couple of gentleman. Needless to say our hour wait turned into over two hours, which we would have accepted except we were being bumped by bribers. Very disappointing. Once we were seated food did come quickly.
We lived in West Michigan for 10 years and Snug Harbor was "our" place. We always go back each summer. This past week we were there and were surprised at the service. The waitress was visibly upset that our party of 16 did not want to cram into one table...so she had to share her tip I guess... We took two families there and we had talked it up and the service and the restaurant itself seemed "worn out". The sushi bar upstairs took away from the seats with a great view and the food was sub par. The clam chowder was still great though. It is sad to see such a top notch place no longer be that. Bring it back to what it used to be.
