Fricano's Pizza Tavern
(616) 842-8640
1400 Fulton St, Grand Haven, MI49417Get directionsCross Streets: Near the intersection of Fulton St and N Hopkins St
The most famous pizzeria in Michigan, this establishment is believed to be the very first pizzeria in the state. They have been serving mouthwatering pizzas with fresh and delicious toppings for decades.
The pizza is a THIN buttery crust. Think of a Chicago style crust rolled thin in a sheeter. The pizza is thin and soft, you can fold it in half without a problem. But it isn't a New York style pizza, there is no rim around the outside.
The sauce is good and the toppings are fresh and plentiful. They mix their own sausage so it's unlike any you've had before. The cheese isn't what you would expect. It's not predominantly whole milk mozzarella that is for sure. Maybe the use a mix with a lot of parmesan origiano? Not sure but it's a stiffer cheese, not soft and milky like mozzarella.
The atmosphere is neat, definitely an old-school home-town feeling. The limited menu is part of what makes the place what it is. Simple and good. A neat place to go but not the best pizza you will find. It just may be the most unique pizza and pizzeria you will find in the area, and that is worth something.
The service is lacking, don't expect much. Your waitress may help you find your table and she will take your order. She will bring you your drinks and pizza. She will bring you the bill and box up your leftover pizza. Want a refill? You probably won't be asked... even if you are shaking the last of the ice from your glass into your mouth right in front of her she won't offer a refill. Don't expect much service and you won't be disappointed. I hope she isn't expect a large tip because I wouldn't want her to be disappointed either.
If you are looking to have fun Fricano's is a good place to try, go there with some friends.
If you are looking for great service and the best pizza ever made... try somewhere else.
The best pizza ever...period! The only thing that even comes close is Mr. scribbs. I recently moved across state and miss fricanos sooooo much. To all you haters, you must like pizza hut or even worse, dominoes! Oh, and they dont need AC, credit cards, or friendly service. They have had a line around the door regularly for many many years. All they need is that amazing greasy pizza. My fav is double pepperoni, double sausage. A beautiful round heart attack :)
