The most pushy and forceful salesmen I've ever met!!! I'm afraid to slow down on 28th St. when I pass the lot now in fear that they'll try to sell me something!

My experience: I was up-front with the salesman when I stopped in spur-of-the-moment and said that my wife and I were CONSIDERING a second car and that we WOULD NOT be making a decision until we had at least 24 hours to think about it. After a test drive, he tried to cajole us into the finance department and I reiterated that we would not be making a decision until we slept on it. He talked about all the great points of the car, then told us to wait and said he'd be right back.

He came back with the used car manager, who was even MORE pushy than the salesman! He said the car was going to sell fast and we needed to make a decision right then or we'd be making an unforgiveable mistake. We said we had already MADE the decision to wait 24 hours and that didn't go well with him. He condescended our attitude, then disappeared while the salesman continued to pressure us to buy the car on the spot. We tried to politely refuse and leave (politeness does NOT work at this lot). Again the salesman said, "Just wait here for 1 second" and disappeared, then came back saying he wanted us to take the car for the night. Anxious to just be out of the place, we agreed to take it and return it the next day.

It was actually better that we did, though, because after driving it on the interstate it developed some very noticeable bumps and noises and other general signs of a car in desperate need of attention. En route to return the car to the lot the next day the salesman called and, trying to turn off the sales tactics, I told him it "wasn't the car for me." He grilled me about why and then said, "Well, we'll talk about it when you get here."

Just wanting to be done with the whole affair, I quickly parked the car and returned the keys to another salesperson, hopped in our car with my wife and tried to get out before we were stopped with more pressuring sales tactics . . . to no avail, the salesman flagged us down as we were leaving and laid all the old sales moves back on us, not letting us leave (again, abandon all politeness!!).

Finally, I just told him the car was crap and dictated the problems I had discovered with the differential, transmission, and engine and he laid off a bit, but still insisted he would "keep our number" in case something more desireable came up.

My dealings with this lot were VERY uncomfortable. I've had experiences with pushy salespeople, but this was the worst. My wife was particularly chagrined by the attitude of the salespeople when you tried to put them off. They are very forceful and refuse to take "No! NO! NOOOOO!!!!" for an answer. Also, the vehicles that they have for sale under $10,000 appear to have only undergone the bare minimum of service and cleaning to prepare them for sale. For several years in high school I worked at my parents' car wash and dealt with auto detailing for used car lots and it's very obvious to me that these cars got little more than a quick wash and vacuum, using as little Armor All as physically possible.

This is the only negative review I see on Yahoo, but make sure you click "Web Reviews" above. This experience has completely turned me off to the idea of purchasing a second car and I will most certainly never recommend Berger to anyone I know.
