I called in advance on Friday to find out if a friend could drink after midnight on his 21st birthday (Saturday). When they answered, it sounded busy so I asked if they had a sec to answer a couple of questions and they put me on hold. When they came back, they said, "Look, we're really busy, can you call back?" I asked when, they said, "Tomorrow morning."
No good.
My friend walked down there and discovered that "Really Busy" was 3 tables and 4 ppl at the bar and the bouncer said he could come back at midnight and drink without issue.
I met the group on the patio and immediately heard nothing but complaints about the service. One member of our party ordered coffee and the server said, "I don't have time to make coffee, can I get you something else?" He ordered water and later went inside, found the server and asked if there was someone else he could order coffee from. The [impatient] response: "Yeah, yeah, I'm TRYING to find someone!" He got his coffee about 30 minutes after he ordered it.
The server only rarely came out to our table outside, and when she did she was grouchy and rude and met our orders with rolled eyes or negative statements like, "Yeah, we can't do that." or "Can't you order something easy?"
The bar wasn't any better. I stood there for almost 10 minutes waiting to get acknowledged (holding a $20 and my ID) while everyone on a first-name basis with the bartender got served ahead of me.
This was my second visit to this restaurant, the first was a lunch date (and the food was not good). While the service looks like the obvious problem, the true failure is with management. The server said (with a packed house) "There's only two of us here." That was not true, I saw at least 4 people in aprons taking drink orders inside (and 2 more on the patio), but there was certainly no assistance or guidance from management. Big failure.
I brought my wife and both of our parents and we had an incredible time. The place really has a great atmoshere. Reminded my wifes parents of the irish pub they went to in Ireland. The food was great, and our server was very pleasant There was a great irish band that we all loved. Great night! Will be going back.
My experience at the black rose was a horrific one, I would not recommend my worst enemy to walk into this establishment. I have never been more disrespected by a server and management has I was when I went to the black rose. There is no real care factor for anyone in this place. I would recommend that no one ever step foot inside of this place.

definitely not surprised by this one... happens quite frequently.
