I totally disagree about the produce at Horrocks. They always have a fresh selection. I hate shopping at Meijer and I absolutely hate Family Fare compared to Horrocks. Meijer is always picked through and old and Family Fare is worse and WAY expensive. I love that they have local stuff and there are always a bunch of employees sorting through it every time I shop. The nectarines and peaches I got last time were juicy and delicious. Avocadoes are always big and not squishy. They are cheaper than other places, too. They also have beautiful flowers. My mom is an artist and she buys the flowers and produce for her still lives all the time.....and plants for her garden. I live in Byron Center and have grew up in Grand Rapids. I've been to many different grocery stores and Horrocks is the most fresh, fun and unique store in Grand Rapids.

I too like that Horrock's is in the area, but feel it needs another location toward the Georgetown Township/Hudsonville area to give 3 Family Fare stores and an awful Meijers some major competition. My only complaint is don't try to sell old or already perished fruits and veggies. I can go to markets in the Detroit Metro area and find strawberries that will last for almost 10 days and still taste juicy!!! That's just one example. I was at Horrock's a few weeks ago and the eggplants were all rotten. The grapefruit only lasted a couple of days before it had mold on it!! Meats have been great, breads wonderful, too much candy for what the store is supposed to be. Horrock's owners need to go check out Vince and Joes in Shelby Township, MI for ideas and examples. I can't stand that I live in the so-called salad bowl of MI and there's no place to buy truly consistent fresh fruits, veggies and meats!!I give an overall 3 star, but as far as fresh fruit and veggies, only 2 stars.
