i went there last November....it was a wonderful place for a first date. LOVE, LOVE, LOVED it...
Even the Taco-Bell crowd would be disapointed with this abomination. Ugly place, unpleasant staff, and the food... Well it's about as Mexican as macaroni & cheese. All in all a spectacularly awful place!!
Smoky and *cough*cough* awful!!!
The food is marginally Mexican, the staff is not friendly, the margaritas are barely drinkable. I have NO idea why this place is touted as the "Best Mexican" in GR. If this is the best Mexican here, I'll never eat Latin food again until I'm out of this town - YUCK! I ordered the fajitas because the picture in GR magazine made them look awesome. That's all it was - a picture - because what I received could barely be called food. Onions so charred they crunched, steak that took 15 minutes to chew, tortillas that were cold in the middle . . .
Also, my wife and I like to sit at the bar when we eat together. We both work in restaurants and the bar typically gives us a chance to talk to the bartender while we eat. Not at Beltline! The bartender spent her spare time sucking her cigarette and laughing with friends until we flagged her after our drinks had been empty for about 10 minutes (she all but rolled her eyes at us, it was obviously a huge imposition to have her pull 2 more beers out of the cooler). Also, it was a Friday night and the speaker at the bar was right by our head so every 5 minutes our ears were rattled with, "Bailey, party of 2, Bailey, party of 2 . . ."
I honestly don't get why this place is so popular! The food is awful, the service is awful, the building is awful . . . even their commercials are painful to watch with the fake Spanish accent. UGH!!!
If you're looking for good Mexican food, go to Little Mexico. It's not great, but it's the best in GR.
