We attended the Big Band Dinner Dance event in April 2008. We stayed in one of the condos right on the beach. The staff was very friendly and helpful, suggesting areas to take a walk and where to eat dinner. The package came with free breakfasts, and the coffee and food were always great. The main hotel building has a ballroom/dining room as well as a cozy fireplace room where we ate breakfast. The dinner dance was amazing with an 18 pc orchestra playing for 3 hours after a terrific prime rib buffet. We loved it and would really enjoy going back. We found off-season to be a great time for us, great weather and not too busy. Charming, peaceful, beautiful and the whole place really has that sense of time past. The pictures on the website do not do it justice.
A beautiful place to get away.: I have stayed at Portage Point Inn on two separate occasions, and immensely enjoyed myself both times. The beautiful view from most of the rooms and condos of Portage Lake are amazing. Honestly, I saw the greatest sun RISE of my life when I stayed there.
On many occasions I have compared food that I thought was good to food at PPI that I thought was amazing. The cashew crusted walleye ( I am pretty sure its walleye) was so good I had it both times I stayed.
Anyway, if you happen upon this review and are planning on staying at Portage Point Inn, I obviously HIGHLY recommend it. Good sevice, courteous staff, and very close to Lake Michigan also.
During the summer (June - September) the prices rise for obvious reasons so be prepared to pay quite a bit more for these times than winter (November - May).
