we use to love it now its just and over priced Saloon. Cambells chuck has better soup. The hot crab dip wasn't.
The rack of ribs where 5 hunk of bone. The steak was small. John A Lau Saloon or (Johnney Laus) and the locals call it will no longer be thereason for a trip to Alpene. If I could ask for a refund I would.
One of the reason why ppl go is it is known to be haunted
My wife and I truly enjoyed the ambiance, food and drink at john Lau's. She had the pan-fried Walleye and I had 'The Hatchet' Rib eye steak. Both were superbly cooked and presented. I had a cup of clam chowder in a nice, crispy roll/bowl. It was also superb. I had two pints of the Bell's stout which were also delicious and went very well with the steak. We did not see the ghost who is supposedly in residence at the saloon or have room for desert, but hope to during subsequent visits. Overall, the best restaurant on the sunrise side of Michigan.
