The Sugar Bowl restaurant captures an essence that is missing from today's dining expereince. The courteous and professional staff, headed by Tony and a waitressing crew anchored by Lori are far and above anything a chain has to offer. I have regularly dined here for the last ten years and would recommend it to anyone. The prices are reasonable and the food is of superb quality. This resturant is one of the best experiences anywhere and has my recommendation to anyone.
There are some really interesting photos in the entryway documenting Gaylord's history as well as showing the restaurant's evolution. However, once you're inside and looking at the menu get ready to be disappointed. This place is essentially a wildly overpriced Coney Island with a smattering of German foods like schpatzle thrown on the menu for flavor. Seriously, they even have gyros. Another reviewer pegged it as Gordon Food Service with parsley, which seems dead on to me. I suspect that they survive by virtue of lack of competition in a smaller town, bolstered by a loyal following of residents who started going there before the restaurant went downhill. Avoid this place, go somewhere cheaper, and get what you pay for.
This is my second year working at the Sugar Bowl. This is by far the best restaurant in this area. All of our food is homemade. NOT FROM GORDON FOODS! Mr. Doumas and his staff work very hard to please the customers. Before me my grandmother worked at the Sugar Bowl for about fifety years if not more. We have people come in from all over the world. So if you happen to be passing by Gaylord MI i recommend that you stop in!
