Wow, where do I start? We were in town taking the kids to Adventureland on 8\4 and wanted a nice, sit down meal. Not a lot to choose from in Altoona to be honest so we agreed to try the Fireside. First impressions, we should have walked out when we walked in. This place is a bar, not a grill. We got the 2 for 1 pasta and the kids got chicken fingers and Louisianna shrimp poppers. A total disaster from start to finish. We actually got our money refunded for the pasta and the kids hardly touched their food. It has been quite a while since we have had a dinner this bad. We are the type who will just pay and leave, not complain but the wife would not have that here. If in town and you are going to Adventureland, hit the McDonalds by the park...at least you know what you are getting. Boo!
Took over 5 minutes to seat at 4:15 in the afternoon, restaurant not that busy. Took 10 minutes for waitress to take our order and another for us to receive our appetizers. We had the jalepeno starred appetizer and they were great, almost worth the wait. Another 10 minutes we got our salad, I had their parmesean dressing, my husband had Italian both tasted homemade and yummy. Another 20 minutes and we got our what should have been herb butter 10oz sirloins, but were actually 6 oz. no arguing with management, but my husband was a meat cutter at a grocery for years. The meat had no flavor except the taste of too long aged meat. Couldn't taste any "herb" to it. They were cooked medium instead of medium rare, but only then did we realize the waitress had never asked us. We had a 2/1 offer through Entertainment Book and I think they made up the coupon by giving you a 6oz rather than the 10oz steak. The noise level in this place is horrendous with table hockey games, we both had headaches when we left and no longer felt like going to Prairie Meadows that was our original plan. It was 5:30 when we left, an hour and 15 minutes for what should have only been about 45. Would go back if all I wanted to do was eat appetizers and get massively drunk to quell the din of the game room.
Tuesday night is 2 4 1 pasta and bud light night.. great combo plus the food was good and the beer is cold.. only down side is kids playing in the game room -- very loud -- stay away from thr bar area and you will be ok....
